Adult non-Catholics and children over the age of 7 (the age of reason) enter the Catholic Church by entering into the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for Children. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for Children is a period of preparation in anticipation of celebrating the sacraments of initiation or welcome—Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Catechumen (the non-baptized) participate in the Liturgy of the Word as part of the community gathered. After the readings, these children and adults are dismissed to further reflect on and discuss the readings proclaimed (read) at the Mass. In addition, participants will be asked to participate in special sessions to learn the teachings and beliefs of the Church.
Throughout the process there are rites (ceremonies) which mark your progress along your journey of full acceptance into the Catholic Church.
The process of becoming Catholic begins when you make that decision to seek more information about “becoming Catholic”. When you are ready you will be welcomed into the Church at the Easter Vigil—Holy Saturday.
For more information call (414-76-0480) or e-mail the Parish Office (schaferl@stjames-franklin.org).
Individuals who were baptized into another Christian tradition are known as candidates. Candidates are prepared to celebrate Confirmation and Eucharist and are welcomed into the Catholic Church.
