ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS
This group meets each Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM in the Parish Center.
BOY SCOUTS
All boys, eleven to eighteen years of age, may join Boy Scouts at any of the scheduled meetings. Interested adults may also participate. No previous years in scouting are necessary. Meetings are held on the first four Tuesdays a month, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, in the South Hall. A parent’s meeting is conducted on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Scout activities include camping, hiking, swimming, merit badge clinics, Court of Honor and one week of summer camp.
CHRISTMAS COOKIE BAKE
All parishioners are invited to join together to bake Christmas cookies to be distributed to homebound and newly bereaved members of the parish.
GIVING TREE
Beginning on the First Sunday of Advent, parishioners are given the opportunity to retrieve a wish from the Christmas Giving Tree in the church lobby. Wishes are for gifts to go to nursing home residents and those identified as in need by either St. James Food Pantry or Catholic Social Servies. Gifts are collected and forwarded to the appropriate agency. Sponsored by the Human Concerns Committee.
PRAYER NETWORK
All parishioners are invited to join the Prayer Network by praying for those whose names are published in the Sunday bulletin. If anyone wishes to be included, they are encouraged to contact our Pastoral Care Coordinator.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Room 5 of the Parish Center. Shawls are created with love for those in need of comfort, the homebound , the hospitalized and those in nursing homes.
NURSING HOME MINISTRY
Twice each month, Eucharist is celebrated with the residents of Maple Crest Rehabilitation Center. Parishioners, by their caring presence, bring Communion and comfort to them. On Sunday, parishioners preside at a Communion service for those residents who wish to participate. Communion ministers also visit other nearby residential facilities for the elderly. Contact the Pastoral Care Coordinator for information.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
St. Vincent de Paul is dedicated to helping the poor of the community. Members operate a weekly food pantry, (open Friday mornings from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and every 3rd Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm), make house calls, visit nursing homes, make funeral visitations of parish members. The Society also services transient people as needed. St. Vincent provides whatever is needed by the poor. Funds for its efforts are made possible through the St. Vincent poor box donations, money from Sharing Sunday, Christian Women and St. Vincent members and others. Prospective members are invited to attend the Society’s weekly Friday meeting at 11:30 am in the Food Pantry. Call the Parish Office for SVDP assistance.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Senior citizens meet the third Thursday of each month beginning at 11:30 am. Cake and coffee are provided. After refreshments, members enjoy games and socializing. New members are always invited to join at any monthly meeting. Call the Pastoral Care Coordinator for more information
SERVICE NIGHT
Twice a year, all parishioners are invited to a Service Night, where members of all ages, from pre-school to senior citizens are given the opportunity to put together projects for nursing homes residents, care kits for college students, Children’s Hospital, women’s shelters and parish groups.
SHARING SUNDAY
At all Masses for the first Sunday of each month parishioners are asked to contribute money and food for the needy. The food is donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry. The money is shared with St. Vincent de Paul and the parish’s emergency outreach fund which enables us to provide emergency assistance to parishioners, neighbors and transient people. Sponsored by the Human Concerns Committee.
SOUTHWEST INTERFAITH PROGRAM FOR THE ELDERLY
This program is sponsored by fourteen congregations in Southwest area of Milwaukee County. The goal is to enable older adults to grow in a sense of personal worth and freedom. A professional neighborhood director is hired by the Interfaith Board which is made up of memebers from the sponsoring congregations. Responsibilities of the director are:
- connect the elderly in need with established community services
- recruit and support caring people who provide services to older persons
- help older persons to help themselves
- develop new resources to bridge any gap in existing services
