Elementary Formation (K5 - 6)

Grades K5-6th--Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are doing a virtual program consisting of activities and prayers to read, watch and do following a monthly theme on our website. There will be a check-in via a Padlet response to a prompt due on the second Sunday of the month. On the fourth Sunday of the month, there will be a Zoom check-in with other elementary families consisting of prayer, a family check-in, and a discussion about what was learned.  When Covid restrictions lessen, we will have in-person family gatherings on the fourth Sunday dates. If you have questions about the changes to the program, call Mary Jo Hennemann at 414-761-0480 x115.  If you are interested in registering your child, complete the online registration form or call the office (414-761-0480) to have a paper copy mailed to you.

Elementary Faith Formation is held on Sunday mornings from 11:00AM-12:30PM, two sessions per month, October - May.  Children are dismissed from the 10am Mass with their catechists to attend class.

There are four Saturday Formation Masses at 5pm on the calendar in September, December, March, and May.  These masses are prepared by certain grades, and students are invited to be lectors, ushers, gift bearers, acolytes, and greeters.

Our curriculum is based on the Sunday Scripture readings for each week as well as a strong focus on basic Catholic beliefs and prayers.  We use the Pflaum Gospel WeekliesPromiseGood News; and Ventures, to help guide the sessions. Our catechists use a wide variety of teaching methods including art, whole group and small group discussions and activities, skits, hands-on reenactments and visits to the church.

Children are eligible to receive their First Reconciliation and First Communion during the second grade (age 7).  Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion is the 2nd grade curriculum with parents attending select class times throughout the year.  It is strongly recommended that a child attending sacramental prep have some sort of Formation experience before starting preparation for these sacraments.

Grade 2--Due to the pandemic, we are doing a virtual family class to prepare for reconciliation this fall using the Blessed curriculum from Dynamic Catholic. The class will be every other Sunday beginning on October 4th at 11AM.  See the CYF 2020-2021 Calendar for dates.
