Anointing of the Sick
This Sacrament is no longer considered as one to be offered when there is no hope of recovery.
The first grace of this sacrament is one of strengthening, peace and courage to overcome the difficulties that go with the condition of serious illness or the frailty of old age.
Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 1520
When a person anticipates surgery or any condition that warrants special spiritual help, they inform us before Sunday Mass that they would like to be anointed. After Mass the priest anoints them with members of our Faith Community surrounding them and praying over them. Once each year on a designated weekend we also offer this Sacrament to the entire Faith Community at all Masses. Here too, we have the ministers and all those present laying on hands and praying over each individual being anointed by the priest. In case of a critical need for this Sacrament, a call to the office (or the emergency number (414) 350-6531 if no one answers the office phone) will help make arrangements on a more timely basis.
