After celebrating the fifty day season of Easter, culminating with Jesus’ ascension to heaven and the descent of the Holy Spirit, we are emboldened to become disciples ourselves, proclaiming Jesus’ message of the nearness of the kingdom of heaven through our words and actions. Let Jesus’ final words in today’s Gospel, “without cost you received, without cost you are to give,” propel us on our mission.
Since this is the final pastoral letter I’ll be writing, thank you for being St. James. It has been a true gift from God being with you these past eight years. Since one never really retires from being a priest, you can be sure that I’ll be around from time to time. I will pledge my help and support to your new pastor, Fr. Octavio Trejo-Flores.
