13th Sunday in OT - June 27, 2021

Who of us has not experienced sickness or death?  If not ourselves certainly a family member or friend.  Jesus has the power to bring healing to the sick and new life to those on the threshold of death.  Whenever we find ourselves in need of new life, turn to Jesus.  His presence will drive out all fear and bring us healing and comfort.  Take to heart the miracles of healing and life we share this weekend.

The Gospel passage today paints two pictures of tremendous hope and faith.  The woman had suffered from hemorrhages for twelve years, was treated by many doctors, had spent all the money she had, and was now worse off than ever.  In spite of that, she still retained the hope that she could be cured.  Her faith in this man she heard about was so strong that she believed she just needed to touch his cloak to be well.  Jarius, the temple official, was told that his daughter died while he had followed the crowd to see Jesus.  In fact, he heard the people at his house weeping.  Still, he held out hope, believing in this man, Jesus, with the reputation for healing.  Their faith gave them hope, and their hope gave them faith.

The psalm response invites us to praise the Lord, for he has rescued us.  For our God is a God of life.  God brought life into the world at creation, making us in His divine image.  Jesus brought new life into the world, redeeming and healing us and preparing us for eternal life.  We come each weekend to hear the word of God, to be nourished in the Eucharist, and to give praise and glory to God.  May our lives, energized by the Holy Spirit, witness to the wonderful generosity of our God, our God of life.

Love, Peace, Joy
