14th Sunday of Ordinary Time - July 6, 2025

Dear Parishioners,

Imagine that on this day Jesus sends you and several dozen of your fellow parishioners to nearby towns or neighborhoods to spread the gospel. Today we hear Jesus do just that with seventy-two of his disciples. He empowers them to call for repentance, heal the sick, drive out demons, and preach of the kingdom of God.

Jesus does not make it easy for his disciples. Instead of sending them out in a group so that some could just tag along, he sends them out by two. He sends them dependent on the people they meet and on God. He sends them “like lambs among wolves.” But he gives them all that they truly need, the power to build the kingdom in his name. Jesus calls us to do the same. We can bring peace to a household with understanding and forgiveness. We can heal suffering with our presence and kindness. We can drive out demons of hatred and discord, of injustice and oppression, by being the voice and hands of Christ in this world. “The harvest is great, but the laborers are few.” May we be numbered among the few so that we may rejoice as the disciples did, marveling at what we can accomplish in Jesus’ name.

Love, Peace, Joy

Fr. Bob
