Dear Parishioners:
Each week we gather here as a family of faith,
expressing our faith and deepening our faith as we
celebrate the Eucharist. Yet, we may still feel that our
faith is weak, especially if we compare ourselves to
others we know. But do you know what? So did the
twelve Apostles. Today we hear them ask the Lord to increase their
faith. May his response hearten us as we struggle with our own faith.
The mulberry tree is especially difficult to uproot, as it has an
extensive root system. One can only imagine how difficult it would be
two thousand years ago, without the excavating equipment we have
available to us today. And yet the task is no match for a small amount
of faith. We may have had occasion ourselves to rely on as much faith
as we could muster to cope with the grief from the loss of a loved one,
to overcome an addiction, or to survive a tragedy in our lives. We
probably did not know how strong our faith was until we put it to the
test. These same Apostles needed to do the same thing after the death
of the Lord on the cross. We have the advantage of knowing that God
is stronger than death, that Jesus is the resurrection and the life, and
that the Holy Spirit is with us forever.
Love, Peace, Joy,
Fr. Bob
