3rd Sunday of Advent - December 14, 2025

Dear Parishioners,

Today, the third Sunday of Advent, is called Gaudete Sunday. A time to rejoice, for we know, with eyes of faith, that the Lord is near. We can sense his presence even as we prepare for the celebration of his coming to us as a newborn infant with eyes of faith. We, like the prophet Isaiah,  or the New Testament prophet John the Baptist, who each prepared his people for God’s transformational presence, we can see his coming. With eyes of faith, let us glory in Jesus’ Presence in Word and Sacrament.

In our Gospel, John has been arrested and thrown in prison for daring to speak out against Herod. Left alone in jail for days on end, John’s followers begin to doubt. Where is the messiah whom he had proclaimed? Are you he, or do we look for another? The answer from Jesus was that the blind see, the lame walk, and the captives are released from prison. If Jesus is our savior and brother, where is he in times of trouble? Do we sometimes feel abandoned also?

Can we see past our maladies, our problems, and our inadequacies, and don’t see the possibilities in the light of Christ? That light of faith can shine through the darkness. That sort of hope and prayer can see us through despair, and we have reason to rejoice.

Love, Peace, Joy,

Fr. Bob
