3rd Sunday of Easter - May 4, 2025

In the days and weeks that followed the Resurrection, the Risen Lord kept appearing to his disciples when and where they least expected: in a locked room in Jerusalem, on the road to Emmaus, on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias. Each time, it took a while for them to recognize him. We often fail to recognize him as well, even though we know he continues to appear in our midst every day; whether in nature, in the person in need, in God’s word, in the sacraments, or in each other.

In today’s Gospel it’s not a surprise to see Peter out on the sea fishing. He was, after all, a fisherman. Without Jesus to lead him, he returns to his old vocation. It was inevitable that their labor produced nothing; the same thing happened before they encountered Jesus the first time. Once again a large catch. At last, Peter realizes that his true vocation is to “catch” disciples from every place on earth. It was on this occasion, that Jesus gives him the opportunity to reconcile with him three times. By allowing Peter to make amends, Jesus forgives him. With dawn approaching, a new day for Peter and all the disciples arises. Each day for us is a grace-filled moment to encounter the Lord as well.

Love, Peace, Joy,

Fr. Bob
