Feast of the Holy Family - December 29, 2024

In our first reading by Samuel, Hannah, because she was childless for so long, promised God that if she had a son, she would consecrate him to the Lord. Today we would never consider giving a little child over to the church. Yes, parents generally bring their newborns to the Church to be baptized, consecrating them in their faith. Though the newborn’s parents still raise the child as their own, they also understand that all of us are God’s children and they trust God to watch over their precious baby, for he or she is precious to God as well. We place our children in God’s hands, as our parents likely did when we were young.

We hope to care for our children and raise them in a loving home as Mary and Joseph did for Jesus. We hope to respect and obey our parents as Jesus did as he was growing. On this feast of the Holy Family we celebrate a family we hope to emulate. May the Holy family be a model of love, respect, and understanding for our own today.

Love, Peace, Joy,

Fr. Bob
