How do we pray?

How do we pray?  Do we pray only once a week when we come to weekend Mass?  Maybe once in a while when something important comes up?  Or do we pray regularly and purposefully?  Do we try to listen to what God is telling us?  Do we find prayer helpful?  Along our journey of discipleship we undoubtedly have been tempted to give up.  Today our Gospel calls us to be persistent on our journey of faith even when we are faced with great difficulties.

Be persistent, Paul charges Timothy, in proclaiming God’s word— whether it is convenient or inconvenient.  It is not always an easy task, even when it is convenient.  But when it is inconvenient, it becomes quite a challenge.  We need to be praying always without becoming weary.  But, we do become tired.  Yet persistence will help us to prevail.  God will secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night.  If the dishonest judge in Jesus’ story will, certainly God, our loving Father, will not be slow to answer.  Justice will be done speedily.

Today on World Mission Sunday, let us commit ourselves to persist in praying and in proclaiming God’s word even when it is difficult.

Love, Peace, Joy

Fr. Bob
