Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

Christmas is still a month away, but you wouldn’t know it if you turned on the television or walked into a department store.  But here and now we celebrate a very different holy day, the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.  This marks the end of the church year of 2019 and we begin a new year next weekend with the first Sunday of Advent.

Today serves as an example; of the kind of Kingship that belonged to the Lord Jesus.  Instead of an earthly throne, his cross was his throne.  Instead of an earthly crown of gold and jewels, his was a crown of thorns.  Our prayer is that of the good thief, Dismas, on Jesus’ right: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”  For that to happen, we ask Jesus to reign in our lives, to rule our consciences, to guide our personal universe that encompasses our own life.  As Jesus rules over all creation, we also are asked to allow him to rule over our lives.  His kingdom is not of this world, so let us set aside the material distractions of this season and focus our eyes on the kingdom of heaven.

Love, Peace, Joy

Fr. Bob
